Trying to get some research on the benefits of Shih Tzu’s with Anxiety and Dementia patients. In a court battle where step kids are trying to get the courts to make me get rid of my babies cause their father has Anxiety and Dementia. Our babies are 2 yrs old and only get excited the first 5 minutes a stranger shows up then they are very calm from then own. Any information would be extremely helpful. Thanks
Absolutely ridiculous. My mother in law had vascular dementia and the pups brought happiness and smiles to her even when she didn’t know who we were.
Shih Tzu’s are the best and preferred breed for people with anxiety, depression and dementia. I have four of them and I suffer from anxiety and depression and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. I find them to be much better than any other breed out there.
get rid of the step kids
I agree, get rid of the step kids!
I have two make Shih Tzu’s, they are both extremely loving and affectionate! They have their own individual personalities and speak with head and eye gestures! I would NOT get rid of them at ALL! They make great companions and will do a world of good with the help of dementia patients! They know and understand your moods! I try sitting down and having a nice talk your stepchildren, it’s NOT about them but what’s best for YOUR husband! Do your research before your court date and arm yourself with enough facts and resources about Shih Tzu’s and dementia patients!
It’s interesting to know that Shih Tzu will not require a lot of exercises. My husband and I are thinking about getting a dog, but we don’t have a lot of time to walk him. I believe that a Shih Tzu will be a great choice for our little companion.
I got my girl ten years ago from a lady who lived in an apartment. She was litter trained and still uses it at nights. (I just put a pee pad in instead of actual litter) Looking for some input on what to do for my now 12 year old’s hind legs. Very stiff, maybe also her hips are sore.

We have one, Odie is the best thing that has ever happened to us.We have had him for 10 years and he still is the most lovable dog you could ever have.
This is very sad news, but we just lost our first after 12 1/2 years. My wife an I are both devastated. I want another one, but she refuses to go through this again. I also suffer from mild depression and anxiety. This dog was absolutely the greatest. I just hope my wife will change her mind.
